A wonderful pair of oil paintings on canvas by French artist Antoine Bouvard who painted under the pseudonym Pelletier, which was his wife's maiden name. This pair of paintings feature coastal scenes.
One has a view across the water looking towards a cottage town with white buildings and a shallow boat peaks around the corner behind the Birch tree in the foreground.
The second has waterfront buildings reflected on the water with distant sail boats on the pier.
Each has a muted sky, water in the foreground and buildings in the background.
Each has an ornate wood frame that was plastered and
painted they are similar in colour, style and size but are each unique.

Bouvard painted mostly Venice scenes but painted the South of France
and the Mediterranean under the pseudonym of Pelletier in his early career.
Similar works signed Pelletier under Antoine Bouvard can be recently
found under the past sales at Christies in London.

Accorning to Art Net : "Bouvard was born at St. Etienne in France in 1870. His early artistic education was undertaken at the
Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he spent three years under a scholarship. He was trained there as an architect and studied art and
architecture under Constant-Dufeus. He became the Director of Architectural Services for the Seine and was responsible for the construction
in Paris of the Bourse du Travail and also of the Boulevard Morland.

Study trips followed throughout Europe, where he began to paint the landscapes of Southern Europe and the Mediterranean coastline
under the name of Marc Aldine and Pelletier (his wife’s name). Most of his output went through a dealer in Paris who recommended that
he consider Venice as a subject. From that point his career never looked back. Gladwell and Company in the city of London held the
first one-man exhibition of his work in Britain in 1928, from which the late Queen Mary purchased two examples of his work.
Mr. Fuller continued to acquire paintings from this fine artist up until Bouvard died."
