Herend Hungary Porcelain Ink Well
With Bird & Chicks in Nest - Dated 1939 - 1948
 
A lovely and unusual inkwell by Herend. Pinks, blues, white and gold decorate the body with a pierced gallery and inkwells. A bird sits in the center of the inkwell over its 3 young chicks waiting for the worm in it's mother's mouth.
The inkwell lids and at the base of the bird's feet are decorated with flowers.

Marked on bottom: HANDPAINTED: 1839-1939 Herend Hungary (with crown and shield surrounded by a wreath).
Also impressed marke "HEREND"
This dates the piece between 1939 - 1948
 
Measures 6 inches long x 4 1/4 inches wide x 4 1/4 inches high
 
Excellent condtion: What looks to be a professional repair to the bird's tail.
